About This Project
This project explores how businesses can apply creativity more strategically in times of uncertainty. Drawing from complexity theory and military strategy, The target is to develop a conceptual framework and decision-making tool that helps organizations identify different types of chaotic environments and match them with the right creative approaches. This preparatory phase focuses on literature review, model-building, and expert consultation to lay the foundation for future field testing.

This project explores the dichotomous nature of creativity — the balance between structure and spontaneity — and how that tension can be harnessed to make better decisions in business. Creativity isn’t just about wild ideas; it’s also about knowing when and how to apply the right kind of thinking.
I’m building a decision-making matrix that helps companies choose from over 200 creative techniques, based on their real-time market conditions. This system draws from both Eastern and Western thought — blending ancient military strategy from The Art of War with modern innovation methods — to help organizations navigate uncertainty, manage conflict, and adapt quickly.
The outcome is a practical, strategic tool that helps businesses and clusters stay competitive by using creativity not as guesswork, but as a guided, situational response to change.
What is the significance of this project?
This project focuses on business strategy, specifically helping companies adapt to rapid change using creativity as a structured, strategic tool — not just inspiration. While many creative frameworks exist, they often lack real-time adaptability and fail to account for shifting market dynamics, especially in high-pressure environments.
By introducing a decision-making matrix with military-inspired strategic thinking, this research offers a clear, practical alternative. It’s designed for organizations — that need to move quickly, align diverse teams, and make sustainable decisions under pressure.
Current creative strategies are often too rigid, too generic, or too disconnected from real-world constraints. This project bridges that gap by offering a flexible, context-driven approach that responds directly to market conditions. It’s a step toward making creativity operational — something leaders can rely on, not just hope for.
What are the goals of the project?
Conduct a comparative analysis of existing creative and strategic thinking models (e.g. design thinking, TRIZ, lateral thinking).
Map these models against concepts from complexity theory (e.g. the “edge of chaos”) and tactical principles from The Art of War.
Develop a theoretical decision-making framework linking strategic conditions to creative actions.
Create a prototype of a decision matrix or toolkit (non-interactive, conceptual version).
Consult with academic advisors and experts to refine the framework for future testing (no data collection involved).
Budget
Funding will support my full-time commitment to the research during the early conceptual development phase. Specifically, it will cover access to academic resources, software/tools for model design, consultation costs, and basic living expenses while preparing the theoretical groundwork for future research. No human or animal subjects will be involved at this stage.

Project Timeline
The project will start with a literature review and framework development (Months 1–3), followed by the creation of the methodology (Months 4–8) to design a flexible approach for integrating creativity into business strategy. The next phase will focus on refining the framework and preparing for potential future testing (Months 9–12). The final phase (Months 13–36) will be dedicated to compiling findings and sharing the results through digital tools, while preparing for future field testing.

Additional Information
What if creativity wasn’t just spontaneous—but something we could apply with precision in moments of uncertainty? This project explores how creativity can become a reliable, strategic tool for navigating complex business challenges.
Can chaos be mapped? By aligning different types of creative thinking with specific organizational conditions, the target is to help businesses make smarter moves—especially when the path ahead is unclear.
What can ancient strategy teach modern innovators? Inspired by Sun Tzu’s "nine terrains", this research reimagines timeless military principles as a guide for diagnosing business environments and choosing the right creative approach at the right time.
